Jane Eyre, Romeo and Juliet, The Odyssey, Moby Dick, Don Quixote, and Around the World in Eighty Days. These classic books have been adapted into some memorable period dramas, but the books themselves are unforgettable. They are the types of stories that even small children would love, if they were made accessible to them.
To help keep this site running: Willow and Thatch may receive a commission when you click on any of the links on our site and make a purchase after doing so.
Our friends at Moppet Books wondered why older readers should enjoy all the fun, intrigue and adventure of the classic tales. They decided to make a series of learning guides to some of the best books every written, just for the kids. Through visually-stunning illustrations and simplified, educational content, they explore these timeless stories and the cultures that spawned them.
We’ve partnered with Moppet Books to give our readers the chance to win what they are calling The Greatest Kids Book Collection ever! and to let you know that for the next 30 days, they are making the Collection available for 50% off regular retail price.
Their goal is to provide children with a classics home library that will inspire the young readers. Combining facts and fiction, each book includes author bios, character descriptions, key words, and more. And as many of you know firsthand, reading the classics opens countless doorways to life’s pleasures, not least among them (in our opinion), a love for literary adaptations and historical costume dramas.
This first Collection of the Illustrated Children’s Home Library of the Greatest Stories Ever Written contains six books in a box sleeve: Jane Eyre, Romeo and Juliet, The Odyssey, Moby Dick, Don Quixote, and Around the World in Eighty Days. All are KinderGuides, brilliantly illustrated hardbound books that make reading the classics both fun and educational for children age 6 and up.
Kids will wander the English moors with our favorite Victorian orphan, Jane Eyre, battle giant cyclops with Greek hero Odysseus, discover why the mighty Moby Dick and Captain Ahab just couldn’t get along, feel all the feels of history’s most famous teenage love story, and find out if Phileas Fogg manages to go around the world in 80 days.
What’s in Each Book?
Each KinderGuide contains a condensed, simplified version of the plot, as well as a section devoted to exploring the life and cultural background of the original author.
In addition, parents and teachers will also appreciate the key word definitions, a breakdown of the book’s main characters, a fun quiz, and a kid-friendly analysis of the important takeaways from each story.
Where do I get KinderGuides Collection 1?
You can read more about the project, the plans for future collections, and get your own KinderGuides Collection 1 here.

June 23, 2019 at 9:24 am (5 years ago)I am not sure how I feel about these editions of classic books. I am an avid reader, love the classics. When my daughter was growing up I made sure she was surrounded by interesting & appropriate books. However it never occurred to me to share Romeo & Juliet (suicide for lost love?) or Moby Dick (obsession for revenge?) These themes seem somewhat intense for youngsters. I would like to win to have the opportunity to review these renditions before committing to purchase for my grandchildren

June 19, 2019 at 9:50 pm (5 years ago)This offer is so exciting for me because I’ve just gotten guardianship of my three elementary aged granddaughters. The oldest, 9 loves to read actual books. She requests new books for her birthday, instead of toys. The middle aged, 7 abd youngest 6, are both excited to emulate their big sister. We’re on a tight income because three young girls, unexpectedly but cherished, have taken a toll on finances. We do often use our town public library, though. Thanks for offering a book collection of wonderful classics for children. I’m also an English Literature major, and creative writing minor. We’re a family who loves to read.

June 16, 2019 at 1:08 pm (5 years ago)I have left 2 comments on Facebook name Jane McDaniel.Only 2 days ago I offered my 8y/o granddaughter a summer reading challenge believing I could find books such as you were offering. She accepted the challenge, but I’m sad that the books I found were not the classics with their greatness of language,, descriptives and in allowing the reader to “live in the book”. I would so love to win these for her. Thanks for the opportunity!
